Pathology:

Insomnia, anxious states, anguish, neurosis, hysteria, migraines of nervous origin. Intestinal spasms, uterine spasms, colic,  depression.

Notes:

The VALERIAN (Valeriana officinalis) contains Borneolic  estersthat attribute to the plant the characteristic sedative  actionand other glucoside and alkaloid substances. The pharmacological action of the plant does not depend on a single substance, but on a complex of compounds. Borneol isovalerianate , for example, although it participates only in the biological activity of the drug, is in any case endowed with a weak narcotic power that favors sleep in nervous subjects by decreasing the excitability of the spinal cord. The valenol (sesquiterpene alcohol) Has a spasmolytic  actionequal, if not superior, to that of papaverine. A notable part of the neurotropic effects of valerian is due to the valeropotriates, which act as sedatives in some forms of agitation and are capable of achieving a sedative effect without depressing the ability to concentrate and the creative faculties. The plant acts on the nervous system with a depressant effect on the cerebro-spinal axis and on the cardiovascular system produces a decrease in pressure in relation to a parasympathetic excitation and a central  depression (M. PEDRETTI, Valerian, in Erb. Tomorrow 5/86). The plant decreases the frequency of heart contractions and makes them wider, regulating systolic energy and blood pressure. It is for this reason that valerian preparations can be used in the therapy of cardiac neuroses with palpitations and a sense of anguish. Excellent as a sedative in different forms of neurosis, in non-severe forms of hysteria, in the anguish of neurasthenics, in nervous insomnia, in menopausal disorders, as well as in some spasmodic affections. ESCOLZIA  (Eschscholtzia californica) is the classic herbal remedy for insomnia. Contains benzylisoquinoline and benzophenanthridine alkaloids (protopine, escholtzine, californidine, berberine, lauroscholtzine), flavonic glucosides, phytosterols, small amounts of morphine, etc. The hydroalcoholic solution of the flowering tops is used for the antispasmodic properties, against insomnia and anxiety states as it acts on the central nervous system, and childhood neuropathies. The main action of this drug is at the level of the central nervous system, where it performs hypnotic activity without causing dizziness upon awakening, since this effect does not exceed six hours. It can have a general analgesic action largely linked to sedation of central origin. Protopin  has above all a sedative, hypnotic and analgesic action, but secondarily it also has antiphlogistic and antiserotonin activity. Escolzia partially inhibits the activity of enzymes that degrade endorphins, thereby increasing the biological action of enkephalins and beta-endorphin. The sedative, hypnotic and antidepressant properties of the phytocomplex are explained as it inhibits the enzymatic degradation of catecholamines and the synthesis of adrenaline, as well as the activity of dopamine beta hydroxylase, monoamine oxidase type B and diamino oxidase. These results indicate that the phytocomplex maintains high levels of catecholamines in the brain by inhibiting their enzymatic catabolic pathways. The CHAMOMILE (Matricaria chamomilla) contains bisabolol, which is protective against gastroduodenal ulcerative lesions and gastritis. Apigenin and its glucosides contained in the plant have a spasmolytic and sedative action to the extent of about three times higher than papaverine.Useful therefore as an anti-inflammatory of the gastrointestinal tract, gastrointestinal spasmolytic and sedative. The MELILOT (Melilotus officinalisIt has antispasmodic and sedative properties at the visceral level and the central nervous system, these properties are due to the coumarins (active ingredients) contained in it,  also containing flavonoids acts as a diuretic. The triterpenes contained, on the other hand, favor the absorption of the other active ingredients. Therefore useful in gastric spasmophilia and in spasms at the level of the renal system (precalculus, cystitis), in anxious states and difficulty or lack of sleep. The HOP (Humulus lupulus) contains bitter floroglucinolic acids and 2-methyl-3-buten-2-ol which have a sedative property, soporific and antispasmodic. Useful therefore in insomnia, spasmophilia that come with menopause. The LEMON BALM (Melissa officinale) has antispasmodic and sedative properties due to its content in flavonoids and triterpenes. It also has an antithyroid activity by inhibiting the binding of the TSH hormone with membrane receptors. The POPPY (Papaver rhoeas)  has calming and decongestant properties. The flowers of the plant are used. Two fundamental elements of pharmacology are obtained from it: codeine and morphine.
